It's very possible the seller could have gotten the auto him/her self the seller is based out of MA so it is possible it is real. There is no way the seller gets anywhere near $40.00 especially with the auto (looking more like a scribble)
I saw this listed before at $60 bucks lol. I believe the seller said it was part of a jersey, like it was signed and this was cut up and part of it ended up in here. But I honestly have no idea. I don't think he tried to fake sign it, as if he did he probably would have used a bigger player, not someone like Baldelli.
Yeah, I tend to subscribe to comment number 2 theory, that it was signed at a game, but because the box was so small, it came out as a scribble. I don't think Topps would go through the trouble of cut-autoing a Rocco Baldelli plus you definitely would have heard more about these. SHANANIGANS!
OMG hahahaha I have like 4 of those cards - I'm going to grab a sharpie and VErY CAREFULLY draw something on the cloth part, making sure not to get any black stuff on the clear plastic.
Mike, I didn't have time to read the other comments... It is a legit piece of an auto according to Topps, but there are quite a few cards with a piece of his signature. I have seen a few online and my card shop has one. He charges five bucks for the plain swatch and 10 for the one with the piece of auto. He contacted Topps when he pulled one and they said they used an autographed jersey to make that card and they estimated that there were about 100 relic cards with pieces of his signature. That is what the card shop owner has told me at least. It is a 1/1 in that it is the only card with that piece of his sig on it, but there are about 100 pieces out there. I guess it makes it more of 1/100? It aint worth 40 bucks...
If you look at the other items that he has listed you will see that there are several sketch cards for sale. One of which is a Derek Jeter. I believe most of the items must be shams because why would you sell the derek jeter sketch card for only $40? last year those cards were all going for around $40 for players that weren't as widely collected as Jeter is. Something about that is fishy.
Never mind the fact that all of the sketch cards are of the same artist. How could one person gather so many sketch cards from the same artist yet have no others?
The official site of the unofficial Ginter #165 that should have been

Interested in collecting....
"to the nines". I am looking to collect a full page of various inserts, relics, refractors, autographs etc from many various sets. Please check out my needs list!
I also enjoy any and all cards of Tim Lincecum, Jacoby Ellsbury, Jason Varitek, Dustin Pedroia, Jon Lester, Felix Hernandez, Yovani Gallardo, Tommy Hanson, etc.
This blog and all collecting is dedicated my 17-month old son Jacoby Dustin (JD). Everything I collect will some day go to him, and in the meantime (when he is older) I hope to teach him about this hobby so we can work as a team. We both thank you kindly for helping us grow our collection!
Looks a little funny to me.
